Spinning Babies®
Spinning Babies® is a pregnancy and birth education approach focused on the relationship between the pregnant body, pelvis, soft tissues, movement, and baby's position during pregnancy and labor.
Rather than focusing only on cervical dilation or trying to place every baby into one “ideal” position, the Spinning Babies approach uses body balancing, movement, positioning, and techniques intended to create space for babies to rotate and move through the pelvis during birth. Resources are available for both expecting families and birth professionals.
Families can find education related to pregnancy comfort, fetal position, breech and transverse babies, labor positioning, Belly Mapping®, the Three Balances℠, and preparation for physiologic birth. Spinning Babies also offers online courses, books, videos, digital guides, and trained educators and birth professionals.
✨ Starlight Recommended
Spinning Babies is one of my favorite resources for understanding how movement, positioning, and the physical relationship between parent and baby can influence pregnancy comfort and the mechanics of labor.
I especially appreciate that the approach isn't simply about trying to force a baby into the “right” position. It encourages families to think about balance, mobility, space, and physiology while giving them practical tools they can explore during pregnancy and labor.
This Resource May Be Helpful If...
You want to better understand your baby's position, are looking for movement and positioning ideas during pregnancy or labor, or want to learn more about how the pelvis and soft tissues can create space for a baby to rotate and descend during birth.
Spinning Babies may be especially helpful if your baby is breech, transverse, posterior, or having difficulty rotating or descending, or if you simply want body-centered tools for pregnancy comfort and preparation for labor. Position-specific techniques should be discussed with your healthcare provider when there are pregnancy complications or concerns about whether a particular movement is appropriate for you.
