Evidence Based Birth®

Preview

Evidence Based Birth® (EBB) is an online pregnancy and childbirth education resource founded by Rebecca Dekker, PhD, RN. EBB works to make research about pregnancy and birth easier for families and birth professionals to understand and use when making healthcare decisions.

The site offers in-depth articles examining the evidence behind common pregnancy and birth practices, along with printable handouts, a podcast, childbirth education, and resources related to informed decision-making and birth advocacy. Topics include due dates, induction, fetal monitoring, doulas, pain management, newborn procedures, Cesarean birth, and many other decisions families may encounter during pregnancy and birth.

✨ Starlight Recommended

Evidence Based Birth is one of my favorite resources for digging deeper into the research behind pregnancy and birth recommendations. I appreciate that EBB doesn't simply tell families what choice to make—it helps explain what the research actually shows so families can better understand the risks, benefits, and alternatives and make decisions that fit their individual circumstances and values.

This is a resource I often turn to when I want to explore the evidence behind a common birth practice, intervention, or recommendation.

This Resource May Be Helpful If...

You have been presented with a decision during pregnancy or birth and want to better understand the research behind your options, or you're simply interested in learning more about evidence-based maternity care.

Evidence Based Birth may be especially helpful if you're wondering why a particular test, procedure, intervention, or hospital practice has been recommended and want information that can help you prepare questions for your healthcare team and participate more actively in shared decision-making.
